Job description
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has staffing need for Wastewater Treatment Operators (South Plant Day OPS).
This position is part of Day Operations and provides the opportunity for operators to launch a career from the foundation up or for experienced operators to expand their career in operations. The work of Day Operations is primarily process maintenance and specialized operation of dewatering.

WHO MAY APPLY: This position is open to all qualified candidates. First consideration will be given to current S.E.I.U Wastewater Treatment Local 925 members. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies for up to 6 months.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work Location: South Treatment Plant – 1200 Monster Road SW Renton, WA 98057- Work Schedule: 4/10 hour shifts as assigned
- Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. Wastewater Treatment Local 925
- Support Rotating Shift Operations as assigned.
- Operate Dewatering as assigned.
- Support Brightwater Operations as assigned.
- Perform Process Maintenance on process systems.
- Perform scheduled and routine preventive maintenance on process equipment including weekly Pump Chores.
- Perform Facility maintenance cleaning Process areas, pressure washing and general grounds maintenance.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, including preliminary, primary, secondary, digestion, gas handling systems, sludge handling, plant-wide air, water, chemical, electrical and hydraulic support systems.- Knowledge of collection systems; including pump stations, regulator stations, CSO facilities and miscellaneous structures.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory, cross connections and pumps
- Knowledge of wastewater terminology and process control
- Knowledge of industrial safety procedures and practices
- Knowledge of and skill in applying sampling, testing and laboratory procedures
- Skill in verbal and written communication techniques and principles and ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions
- Skill in reading, recording and interpreting information from field devices
- Ability to locate and read PNID drawings
- Strong understanding of Wastewater processes with specific knowledge of South Plant.
- In-depth knowledge of plant process systems.
- High level knowledge of Safety Lockout procedures.
- Confined space trained.
- Respiratory Fit Tested.
- Able to navigate and operate the Ovation Control system
- Operate Bio-solids Trucks for purposes of staging for hauler.
- Washington State Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification from the Washington State Department of Ecology or out-of-state equivalency which must be converted to a Washington certification within one year of employment
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- CPR and First Aid certification
