Location: Depending on the successful candidate, this position could be based in Presque Isle, Bangor, Augusta or Lewiston, with remote work options available after a training period

As an internal auditor, you will help ensure the integrity of the unemployment program by assessing the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to claims management. You may also be involved in making decisions about eligibility. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a field that is constantly changing.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducts internal compliance audits to determine adherence to rules, policies, protocols, and procedures ensuring ongoing accuracy of internal processing of all functions of UC claims systems and procedures.
  • Inspects, tests, and verifies reports, audits, eligibility determinations, payment calculations, and other functions such as appeals and peer review activities to ensure functional accuracy and completeness.
  • Evaluates and analyzes claim intake information to prepare and research claims, adjudication, and if pertinent, appeals to the Division of Administrative Hearings and Unemployment Insurance Commission to ensure proper handling of claims and compliance with mandates.
  • Inspects and verifies results of quality assurance audits performed by agency staff and conveys discrepancies or disagreements to management attention.
  • Writes case summary reports; documents and codes all case findings to make data available for federal review, labor program funding, and to establish compliance.
  • Evaluates processes and outcomes and recommend procedural improvements to improve effectiveness.

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of quality assurance audit methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to stay current and understand, discuss, explain, and apply applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to conduct audits, and document and support audit findings subject to peer review procedures.
  • Ability to prepare audit reports and recommend appropriate corrective action as required.

Minimum qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, management, or related field and 3 years’ experience analyzing and evaluating claims processing, a demonstrated ability to identify measures, indicators of system performance, evaluate complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options, implement solutions, and improve or correct performance relative to integrated service delivery, or systems, programs, and practices. Comparable work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
