Job description
The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) under the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a Motor Truck Driver with Class 2B Hoisting and Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement licenses to join the Garage and Grounds team. The Motor Truck Driver operates trucks of various sizes in the delivery, collection and transporting of materials and waste; services trucks and makes minor repairs and performs related work as required.
Please Note: This is a 1st shift position working from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday as days off.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all-inclusive):
- Operates motor dump truck for the collection and disposal of refuse and for hauling construction material and delivers them as directed.
- Drives tractor and power-driven equipment used in care and maintenance of institution of building and grounds.
- Services truck with oil and gas and clean exterior and interior. Makes minor repairs to truck and prepares truck for winter and summer operation.
- Assist in road construction repair work and assigned manual labor tasks.
- Perform grounds tasks such as mowing lawns, pruning trees, trimming shrubs and planting flowers, Seed, fertilizer and sprays lawns and flowers and shrubs.
- Rakes leaves, cleans roadways, parking lots, walks, gutters, drains and catch basins. Makes repairs to sidewalks and roadways.
- Operates snowplow and sander in conjunction with motor truck. Shovels snow and/or use snow blower.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the operation uses and limitations, and care and maintenance of motor trucks.
- Working knowledge of state traffic laws, regulations and safety precautions pertaining to the operation of motor trucks.
- Ability to detect mechanical defects and make minor repairs.
- Capacity to load and unload heavy materials from trucks.
- Talent in performing routine tasks and to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Skilled in performing related common labor duties requiring physical stamina.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Landscaping duties and all Landscaping equipment.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency is preferred. ASL preferred.
- Candidates must be able to read, write and otherwise communicate in English.

Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.
WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service, and 30 adolescents on the ACCU.

Special Requirements:
I. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B CDL Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
II. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Class 2B Hoisting License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.
