The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for a Truck Driver. In this role, under limited supervision, you will be responsible for operating different vehicles on the ORNL campus and off-site locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive and operate vehicles to move various materials from one location to another
- Drive automobiles, vans, or buses to transport passengers
- Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
- Follow appropriate safety procedures for operating vehicles and transporting materials
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order
- Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices to load, unload, and transport materials
- Inspect the load to ensure it is properly loaded and secured
- Coordinate with necessary parties to ensure prompt and complete deliveries
- Communicate with passengers and other relevant individuals to ensure scheduled agendas are met, and passengers are transported in a timely manner
- Maintain recordkeeping documents and electronic files
- Other tasks as assigned by management
Basic (or Required) Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, with five years of verifiable relevant experience.
- The position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License and the ability to obtain and maintain hazmat, tanker, and passenger endorsements. Completion of FMCR training and an ORNL Medical DOT card is also required.
- Ability to work varying shifts.
- This position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug and alcohol testing program.
- A pre-hire physical will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people and goods.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Ability to comply with Federal Motor Carrier Regulations.
- Ability to communicate with others and display a good-natured, cooperative attitude.
- Ability to be reliable, responsible, and dependable in fulfilling obligations.
- Ability to give attention to detail and thoroughly complete work tasks.
