DEFINITION
To perform minor and major mechanical and prevention maintenance repairs to plant, and other mechanically-driven equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Sr. Treatment Plant Operator.
Receives technical supervision from the Treatment Plant Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Receives technical supervision from the Treatment Plant Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Repair and maintenance including but not limited to; lift station pumps motors, electrical panels and related appurtenances utilized in wastewater treatment operations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems of equipment utilized in wastewater treatment operations.
- Operate electrical testing equipment.
- Oil and grease equipment; adjust belts and chains.
- Inspect for wear and vibration.
- Read and understand maintenance manuals, diagram and blueprints.
- Inspect, operate, repair and replace valves, pipes and pipe fitting and related appurtenances utilized in a wastewater treatment operation.
- Utilize and operate various power tools, metal fabricated equipment and hand tools.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to plant buildings, structures.
- Maintain records, logs and reports.
- Operate dump trucks and heavy equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to dust/mites, fume, odor, explosive, electrical and mechanical hazards; exposure to constant noise standing; squatting; sitting; seeing; running; pushing, pulling, lifting, dragging, and carrying up to 80 pounds; climbing; crawling; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person and by two-way radio; fine finger manipulation; operating a motor vehicle and all types of equipment through city traffic
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Thorough knowledge of electrical motors, pumps and instrumentation.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, tools, equipment, supplies and materials necessary for the maintenance and repair of pumps and motors and other related wastewater treatment plant equipment.
- Working knowledge of safe work practices and under hazardous work environment.
- General operation of a variety of heavy and light equipment.
Ability to:
- Learn the principles and practices necessary of a sewage treatment plant including the operation and maintenance of sewage plant machinery.
- Make routine repairs and adjustments to motors, pumps and other equipment.
- Read meters and gauges correctly and act quickly and competently.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and prepare simple written reports.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
One year of experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps and motors, gear boxes, electrical and machinery and related appurtenances, and a High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of, or ability to a valid Texas Class B CDL, within 90 days.
