    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Excellent communication skills. Ability to meet and work with people, both employees and general public
    • Knowledge of State of Kansas public school transportation laws and regulations
    • Experience in supervisory and managerial skills, including employee evaluation, time management, work delegation, timely completion of paperwork, appropriate record keeping, and organizational skills
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn district and surrounding areas, including familiarity with streets and County roads
    • Aptitude for using technology and related transportation software systems
    • CDL licensed

    REPORTS TO: Director of Business & Operations

    JOB GOAL: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by USD 470.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
    • Prepares bus routes for all public schools in the district as per Board policies.
    • Schedules drivers and vehicles for activity transportation requests.
    • Conforms to all State of Kansas laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
    • Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a documented program of preventative safety.
    • Holds safety meetings with drivers as required by policy or State regulations.
    • Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation and fleet mechanic personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
    • Maintains records as required by the USD 470 Business Office, to include but not limited to: (a) timecards of transportation employees, (b) driver physicals, transportation employee drug test results, CDL training records, defensive driving courses, First-aide class attendance, cost of maintenance and fuel, preventative maintenance records, and roster of students transported.
    • Checks roads in inclement weather and advises administration on road safety conditions.
    • Cooperates with building principals and administrators responsible for planning special school trips.
    • Schedules vehicle inspections with drivers and mechanic.
    • Schedules vehicles for staff and administrative use.
    • Works in conjunction with mechanic to ensure buses are ready for annual pre-school inspection by the State of Kansas.
    • Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
    • Administers the transportation budget.
    • Approves and forwards transportation service invoices to accounting department
    • Works with mechanic to maintain all district-owned vehicles, ensure all vehicles are in optimum condition and meet safety requirements, and develops plans for preventative maintenance.
    • Completes and dispatches insurance reports.
    • Submits all reports required by local and state authorities.
    • Takes positive and active role in solving discipline problems occurring in school vehicles.
    • Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
    • Develops recommendations to address future equipment and personnel needs.
    • Develops recommendations to address future transportation needs.
    • Sets annual goals to target transportation department improvements.
    • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Education or Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 12 months/year.
