POSITION: Transportation Drainage Engineer

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated Transportation Drainage Engineer looking for career advancement, in our Crystal Lake, Chicago, or Mokena, Illinois offices. This position will primarily consist of phase I and phase II drainage analysis and design for a variety of transportation projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. This team orientated position will include working with Baxter & Woodman’s diverse disciplines and offices.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Assist the firm’s transportation department by assisting with completion of engineering plans, specifications using IDOT Standards, and drainage engineering studies for municipal, county and state clients.
- Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models of municipal storm sewer and sanitary collection systems.
- Analysis and design of stormwater facilities (open channels, culverts, storm sewers, detention basins, green infrastructure, etc.) and proposed improvement projects.
- Complete drainage portion of engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimate production using IDOT Standards.
- Complete IDOT Hydraulic Reports, Location Drainage Studies, and other drainage studies.
- Assist in preparing permit application submittals for roadway improvements and transportation drainage projects.
- Communicate with clients and regulatory agencies.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
- Experience preparing IDOT Hydraulic Reports and Phase 1 drainage studies, including Location Drainage Studies and Location Drainage Technical Memorandums
- Experience preparing permits related to drainage design, floodplain/floodway, and wetland impacts, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 and IDNR-OWR Floodway Construction permits
- Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area (own transportation)
- Ability to handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills
- Work within a Team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals
- HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, CivilStorm, StormCAD and HY-8 experience preferred
- Microstation/Geopak capabilities with an understanding of IDOT workflow preferred
- Experience with roadway and infrastructure design experience using IDOT Standards preferred
