You will be an integral part of our residential services team helping survivors of domestic violence overcome barriers to obtaining and maintaining safe, permanent housing.
Caring Unlimited works with the community to end domestic violence in York County. We offer a comprehensive array of direct support programs to anyone impacted by domestic violence and work with the community to change the conditions that allow abuse to persist. As part of a supportive, professional, and dedicated team, the Transitional Housing Advocate provides case management to and supports residents in setting and meeting goals for education, employment and well-being.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct services to clients including program intakes, crisis intervention, safety planning, housing search assistance, and advocacy.
- Provide information about and referrals to related services as appropriate for individuals using transitional housing services.
- Create a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment. Take appropriate measures to ensure a safe environment within the houses, including enforcement of safety policies, identifying and responding to maintenance needs; setting up apartments.
- Actively engage residents in services and programs
- Support residents to meet their own goals using a voluntary, strengths based, empowerment model of services. Assist them in meeting immediate needs, medical needs including mental health and substance misuse. Provide transportation as needed.
- Advocate with and act as contact person with other community agencies and individuals who will be providing services to program participants.
- Facilitate community support group meetings and house meetings as necessary to maintain a supportive community environment.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, records, and service statistics.
- Participate regularly in 24-hour helpline coverage and backup as assigned.

Job Requirements
The following experience and skills are considered essential:
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.
- Prior experience and demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, peer support/counseling, group facilitation, and conflict resolution preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills. Detail oriented
- Ability to create and sustain respectful relationships with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, clients, and community stakeholders.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products and able to learn database software.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Educational Requirements
The following education requirements are considered essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field or equivalent experience required.
- Willingness to acquire knowledge of and understanding of issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
- Successful completion of required advocacy training upon hire.
Qualifications may be obtained through work experience, education, personal experience, or a combination of these.
