Training & Development Specialist or Senior Specialist
Job description
The Vice President for Research at the University of Virginia seeks a Training and Development Specialist or Senior Specialist to join their growing team. This position will report to the Training & Development Manager but be assigned to support the Office of Sponsored Programs. Specifically, this position will be tasked with developing programing and educational content to enable users to effectively and efficiently use the University’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) research administration and financial solutions to support sponsored research activities. The primary audiences for this programing and content will be faculty researchers and support staff in central and school/unit offices.
This position is term limited with an initial appointment of 2-years; renewal is contingent on departmental funding.
This position is eligible to be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person.
Essential duties of this position include:
Document system processes, keeping up to date with system changes, and maintain constructive relationships with subject matter experts.
Design, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate training and educational programs and materials within a highly complex technical field.
Develop various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for different team members.
Facilitate implementation of change management initiatives.
Track course feedback and incorporate suggestions to improve offerings.
Report monthly activities related to courses.
May manage large-scale projects and lead work teams.
Work with management and subject matter experts to develop and facilitate offerings, materials, courses, and programs.
Required Skills:
Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
Experience in creating written job aids and video demonstrations.
Ability to prioritize and balance work demands.
Outstanding written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues virtually.
Proficient in MS Office Suite.
Experience with the following is strongly preferred but not required:
Articulate Storyline
Workday Financials
Huron Research Suite, e.g., Grants, Agreements, Employee Compensation Compliance, and Conflicts of Interest
Lean Methodology or other continuous improvement methodology
Qlik Reporting
Research Administration and/or research compliance
This position will be filled at either the Training Specialist or Senior Specialist level dependent upon the finalist’s education, experience, and qualifications.
Minimum qualifications for Training Specialist:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least four years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum qualifications for Training Specialist Senior:
Education: Master's degree
Experience: At least seven years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
