Description

ConocoPhillips’ Commercial business is responsible for marketing the company’s global production and engaging in third-party marketing and trading. Within Commercial, the North American Gas Marketing and Trading organization is consistently named as a top 5 marketer of natural gas in North America, marketing over 10 BCF per day. The team strives to deliver a competitive advantage to ConocoPhillips by providing industry leadership, first in class customer service, and unmatched operational reliability.

Trader, Midcontinent Region is a primary external interface to key market participants including suppliers, end users, marketers, and pipelines. This position is critical to the success of the gas marketing and trading team and may be responsible for marketing equity production and creating incremental value through physical natural gas marketing and trading activities. The preferred candidate will be familiar with natural gas marketing, trading, transportation, and natural gas market fundamentals. This role requires the capability to create value through evaluating, recommending, and executing disciplined marketing and trading strategies. The role not only is critical to achieving team success but acts as a key Commercial representative across ConocoPhillips and in the industry.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing a reliable market for COP’s growing natural gas production
  • Optimizing third-party Asset Management Arrangement agreements
  • Transportation and storage optimization
  • Assisting in the development of long-term commercial offtake strategies for equity production
  • Identifying opportunities and executing disciplined marketing and trading strategies
  • Developing, maintaining, and growing strategic customer relationships
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders such as physical and financial trading, scheduling, structuring, credit, accounting, and legal
  • Maintaining a detailed record of daily and monthly activity
  • Ensuring trades and corresponding confirmations accurately reflect the deal terms
  • Responding to issues in real time, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications


Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Admin., Mathematics, Engineering, Science, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in gas trading, origination, or related activity
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS O365 applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 15% of the time on a yearly basis
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work bid week, after hours, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to be on call 24/7

Preferred:

  • 1+ years natural gas trading experience
  • 1+ years of direct experience in scheduling natural gas
  • Advanced knowledge of the U.S. natural grid, gas flow, and transportation segmentation
  • Advanced knowledge of Commodity XL system
  • Intermediate knowledge of risk management concepts and tools
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, including the use of macros
  • Analytical skills, and the ability to create solutions to sophisticated issues
  • Ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • History of delivering on commitments
  • History of providing quality deliverables (e.g. internal reporting and external presentations)
  • Thorough understanding of all contract terms
  • Comfortable in an open trade floor environment
  • Bilingual - Spanish
  • Efficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with strong focus on teamwork
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
