The temporary Administrative Specialists and Clerical Support roles have an important role in doing work that helps make Seattle a great place to live, work, and play. Temporary employment is a great opportunity to work in the public sector and support essential business functions for the City of Seattle.
The City of Seattle's Temporary Employment Services (TES) is establishing a pool of well-qualified administrative specialists who will support various administrative and clerical functions in a variety of City offices and departments. This recruitment will be used to fill Administrative Specialist I, Administrative Specialist II, and Administrative Specialist III temporary needs throughout the City. These positions may be full-time or part-time and with varying schedules. Assignments are not guaranteed, and the assignment length is based on performance and/or the business needs of the department.
Some temporary employees perform work within a Bargaining Unit, and are represented by PTE Local 17, or Local 763.
Listed below are examples of the type of work performed by Administrative Specialists:
Administrative Specialist I
- Receptionist and front desk
- Receives, opens, date stamps, and determines proper distribution of mail and/or other materials; prepares outgoing mail.
- Data Entry
- Receives, appropriately processes, issues receipts and files cash or other payments
- Orders office supplies
- Provides administrative support functions to division director
- Schedules and maintains calendars
- Provides assistance to higher level management on special projects, involving and compiling information or data of a specialized nature
- Takes, prepares and distributes minutes and records of official meetings
- Performs highly responsible liaison with high level management, officials and representatives of agencies
- Composes routine correspondence for high level management requiring confidentiality
- Maintains a variety of complex records on computer or manual systems and materials of a highly sensitive or confidential nature
Salary: $26.05 - $30.09

Administrative Specialist I: Requires at least one year of office clerical support experience (or a combination of education/training/experience which provides an equivalent background needed to perform the job successfully.
Administrative Specialist II: Requires two years of office clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides evidence of the ability to perform work of the class).
Administrative Specialist III: Requires three years of office clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides evidence of the ability to perform work of the class).
The most successful applicants will have the following competencies:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to allow effective interaction with members of the Department at all levels, as wells as other City entities, outside agencies, and the public.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic.
