Telecommunicator - Temporary Position with Full Time Hours

Example of Duties:
  • Under general supervision, provides emergency and non-emergency communication response to public requesting law enforcement, fire or emergency medical service.
  • Work involves receiving non-emergency calls and routing or assigns appropriately, obtaining all necessary information and transmits same to appropriate dispatcher or responding agency, maintaining appropriate logs and documents, recalling citizens when necessary, operating a variety of equipment that may include computer systems, radios, telephone, and related equipment.
  • Reports to Telecommunicator Supervisor.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma; 1 year experience in clerical or customer service; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
  • Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certification, NIMS certification, Telecommunicator certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Fire Dispatch certification required within one year of hire.
  • Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.

This position is a temporary position. Employment will only be available for up to 5 months, while working full-time hours (40 hrs). Selected applicants have the potential to gain Full-Time permanent employment pending satisfactory weekly evaluations. The selected applicant(s) must have satisfactory weekly evaluations for 4 consecutive months before being considered for permanent employment.

Starting pay is $15.00 per hour. After employee has been employed for 90 days, pay will increase to $16.00 per hour. After employee has completed all training, obtained required certifications, and is performing at acceptable levels, pay will increase to $17.00 per hour.
