TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (RADIO TECH)
Job description
Duties
- Runs the preventative maintenance program for all tactical and commercial off the shelf radio equipment assigned to the Joint Forces Headquarters.
- Ensures the quality of unit radio training programs remains high by leading train the trainer classes and by producing written and video-based training materials for units to utilize.
- Manages statewide National Guard radio nets, to include those on High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF), and trunked systems.
- During a Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) event involving National Guard forces, serves as a Communications Technician (COMT) under the Incident Commander?s Communications Leader (COML)
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The policy to have a compatible MOS/AFSC has been suspended. When reinstated, you will have one year to meet the qualifications of this position or meet the requirements in the guidance set by NGB.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: All series personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level. Experiences gained through military technical training schools (restricted to one of the identified/allowed compatible military skills) are included in the one year on-the-job experience. An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that prepares the applicant to perform the duties of the position. The applicant's educational-degree study program or military or civilian academic courses may substitute for some specialized experience. An applicant must demonstrate the specialized experience competencies (skills, knowledge, abilities and behaviors) to qualify for a position identified by its applicable career level.

Education
Army National Guard Captain through Lieutenant Colonel Applicants for the Series GS-0391-11 and GS-0391-12 ARNG Positions: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
Army National Guard Second Lieutenant and First Lieutenant Applicants for the Series GS-0391-09 and GS-0391-11 ARNG Positions: Must provide accredited college transcripts that validate active enrollment in an undergraduate degree program with at least 90 verified semester credit hours in a specified program completed and passed. Must provide certification from college/university of projected graduation, within 24 months, in the specific degree program.
Army National Guard Warrant for the GS-0391-09 through GS-0391-12 ARNG Positions: Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. For the GS-0391-12 position, must have undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university or from an equivalent U.S. Army professional military education school.
Army National Guard Enlisted GS-0391-09 and GS-0391-11 ARNG Positions: Must have a high school diploma or a general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university or from an equivalent professional military education school supports a well-qualified result.
You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

3. May be required to travel to and from offsite worksite(s) from the normal work area to perform assigned duties. Due to distances involved, travel may involve one or more overnight stays.
4. Incumbent must complete appropriate training and obtain required certifications IAW DoDI 8140, DOD 8570.01M or applicable governing document(s) for Cyber workforce as an IA Technician Level II within 6 months of employment pending training seat availability.
5. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
6. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
7. This is a National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership.
8. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.
9. Position is designated as OM-STS-001 within the Defense Cybersecurity Workforce as guided by NIST SP 800-181, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education, Cybersecurity Workforce Framework. Which establishes the Tasks, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities expected of this position.
