- Assist groups and individual students in the classroom with understanding the material presented.
- Assists in monitoring student safety and behavior and assists with the management of the classroom environment; keep aware of events which may trigger inappropriate behaviors; act as a role model and establishes rapport with students.
- Assist with hands-on lab experiences through the demonstration of techniques; adapt appropriate instructional tools for student learning; assist with creating appropriate evaluations or grading criteria; assist with monitoring and reporting academic progress, performance, and attendance.
- Assist with identifying students individual learning styles and special education needs.
- Assist with modifying the instructional techniques based on learning plans for students in any the following programs: Construction Trades, Computer Networking/Repair, Graphics Communications, Medical Careers, Total Auto Care, Fundamental Chef/Food Industries, Career Exploration, Heavy Duty Truck, or Work Seminar, if needed.
- Assist with reviewing curriculum and lesson plans.
- Interact with students to assist with implementing objectives established by teaching staff.
- Assist with completing regular and routine classroom maintenance such as filing, typing learning materials, making copies, cleaning workstations, and assisting students with computer learning.
- Help to maintain safety of all students and the environment.
- Collaborate with related service personnel, teachers, fellow assistants, and other program/school staff in order to meet the needs of students and maintain a positive work environment for all.
- Participate in training/in-service as assigned, in accordance to the contract.
- Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Skills, aptitude, and background in any of the above program areas.
- Experience working with and/or supervising high-school age students in a learning environment preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some knowledge of effective teaching principles and methodology.
- Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team with staff, parents, and the community through the building and maintaining of collaborative and positive relationships.
- Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations.
- Basic computer and email skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.
- Frequently requires speaking, hearing, standing, using hands to fingers, handle or feel, pushing or pulling, and repetitive motions.
- Occasionally requires sitting, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and reaching and lifting.
- Work requires close vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using measuring devices, and operating machines.
- Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may require wearing of personal protective equipment.

Position Title: Technical Tutor – Secondary Education: Career and Technical Education - Constructions Trade (CTE) program
Assignment Location: Dakota County Technical College, Rosemount, MN, supporting students attending the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program
Hours per Day: 6.5
Schedule: 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, following the Secondary Technical Center school calendar

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of the licensed Career and Technical Education teachers and the direct supervision of secondary program’s principal, technical tutors assist high school-age students in individual and classroom learning opportunities, monitor and model positive behavior and safety for students, assist with adapting or modifying learning materials or activities to facilitate student learning, obtaining resources to supplement curriculum, and perform related work as assigned. Technical tutors implement the instructional plan or carry out appropriate learning activities for the assigned student(s) in the designated classrooms, which could include any of the following programs: Construction Trades, Computer Networking/Repair, Graphics Communications, Medical Careers, Total Auto Care, Fundamental Chef/Food Industries, Career Exploration, Heavy Duty Truck, or Work Seminar. Professionalism, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach are essential when working with students to ensure their safety and growth and in order to help them understand and exhibit appropriate behaviors at school and in the community. A technical tutor is part of a team environment, where collaboration, communication, and adaptability are key to the success of the team and the success of the students. The technical tutor role is performed following District policy and State/Federal Laws.
