Job Summary: This position provides architecture planning, provisioning, and support of Windows/Linux servers, client systems, applications, and network infrastructure for all BCS IT platforms. BCS hosts applications on multiple Windows-based servers across multiple campuses. The reliability and performance of these systems are critical to BCS's function and require significant attention to ensure proper operation. This position also provides mentoring to all other positions on the technology staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manage system operation projects to completion with all appropriate support and documentation.
  • Design BCS's Windows/Linux server architecture, system configuration standards, provisioning processes, and support guidelines.
  • Design and implement Windows system/storage management and provisioning process automation.
  • Provide high-level support for BCS production services — troubleshoot client/server network technical problems as they arise and act as a point of escalation for complicated or difficult issues.
  • Leverage expert knowledge of the technology to mentor all IT staff.
  • Provide performance and capacity planning: monitor, reconfigure and tune hardware and software for performance improvements and future scalability.
  • Facilitate the planning of system and feature upgrades.
  • Design and enforce system and network security procedures.
  • Monitor critical systems and immediately triage and mitigate issues.
  • Document server and infrastructure systems for disaster recovery purposes.
  • Plan and participate in scheduled off-hours infrastructure upgrades.
  • Help in the maintenance / inventory of all computer assets.
  • Manage tier 3 tickets and perform tier 3 ticket escalation when required.
  • Other tier 3 engineering duties as assigned.

Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience managing Linux servers and environments, especially within a larger Windows-based ecosystem.
  • 5+ years system design and administration experience in Windows server production environments.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a Microsoft Active Directory environment.
  • 5+ years provisioning and configuration automation management.
  • 5+ years’ experience creating system design, project plan, requirements planning, specifications and maintenance documentation.

Qualifications (desired):

  • Experienced maintaining LAN and WAN architecture including Ethernet and Fiber.
  • Experienced maintaining networking hardware; Juniper, Aruba MAS, Aruba AP and Brocade.
  • Experienced maintaining Firewalls
  • Significant knowledge of and experience working in virtualized server environments.
  • Strong scripting capabilities including Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell and Batch.
  • Understanding of high-availability solutions using oVirt clustering and SAN technologies.
  • Experienced with *nux operating systems and applications.
  • Experienced with monitoring systems such Cacti, Smokeping, Grafana, Graphite and Icinga/Nagios.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Windows family of operating systems including Windows Server, Windows 8 and Windows 10.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory/Azure domains.
  • Proficient with automated Windows deployment.
  • Experienced with Microsoft System Center products including SCCM, SCOM, and SCVMM.
  • Strong understanding of the Microsoft Office365 family
  • Ability to handle hardware troubleshooting, reconfiguration, and repair.
  • Ability to handle network wiring repair and reconfiguration.
  • Ability to create detailed system technical and operating documentation.
  • Proven ability to manage projects to completion.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Additional Details:

  • This position is integral to and responsible for network and data security for the organization.
  • This position is an on-call position. All necessary tools will be provided.

Work Requirements:

  • Work is generally performed inside, sitting, within an office environment, with standard office equipment.
  • Occasional bending may be needed.
  • Occasional lifting (less than 100 pounds) may be required.
  • Occasional driving between locations (between 5 – 20 miles) is required.
