JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the administration of county information technology systems.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Provides telephone, in-person, and remote support to end-users.
  • Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components, and office applications.
  • Installs hardware and peripheral components, including monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives.
  • Monitors work orders and resolves them in a timely manner.
  • Maintains, supports, troubleshoots, and administers the intranet, internet, and wireless network.
  • Administers and supports application servers.
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software problems.
  • Administers the Active Director to create new users, disable users, reset passwords, and provide restricted access.
  • Configures, installs, and sets-up new network switches, Wi-Fi access points, and servers.
  • Manages, maintains, and administer IP phone system.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all switches, servers, personal computers, etc.
  • Researches technical issues to develop solutions.
  • Rebuilds, customizes, and repairs parts.
  • Makes, runs, terminates, and installs network cable.
  • Deploys, administers, and troubleshoots anti-virus software and systems.

  • Repairs, maintains, and services uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of network technologies, hardware, and software.
  • Knowledge of system backup and recovery systems.
  • Knowledge of IT hardware and software installation, repair, and updating principles.
  • Knowledge of telephone and other communications systems.
  • Skill in the provision of services to end-users.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The IT Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include industry best practices; manufacturer installation, operations, and repair manuals; and department and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied technical duties. Frequent changes to industry standards and the variety of systems to be managed contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to assist in the administration of county IT systems. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of county operations.

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, vendors, contractors, elected and appointed officials, and the general public.

  • Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and grease. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED; and
  • Minimum one year of related experience required; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of a clean criminal record.
  • Ability to readily obtain GBI Security and Integrity certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field preferred.
