Terra Nova Nurseries, one of the world's largest breeders of ornamental plants, seeks a Stock Plant Laboratory Manager. This is a tissue culture lab that maintains a healthy supply of our wide catalog of patented plants. Job responsibilities include:

• Watch sterile technique, cutting techniques, checking the quality of type II and III plants we make
• Answer questions regarding work orders and plants, what to do when not enough plants or extra plants, or not the right media available.
• Clarify procedures to employees while insuring they become more independent in their work duties
• Policing lab to eliminate causes of contamination
• Tracking experiments in the pilot production, making observations, helping improve the crops
• Data entry of the completed work orders to excel spreadsheets and access database
• Assist Manager in helping crew to work as a team
• Working with Lab manager & Research Assistants in learning the new cutting techniques for new crops or new ideas to try in the production.
• Help the Stage-3 Lab Coordinator in moving stage III, pulling rooted plants out for planting, quality control on outgoing stage III, in making slips and moving medium to other areas in the nursery.
• Working with greenhouse supervisor regarding plant quality, planting stage III trials separately when needed.
• Maintaining healthy, clean MB of all assigned crops in production at facilities not owned by Terra Nova as well a
• Running experiments to improve plant quality, crop yield, cooler storage, etc.s in production at Terra Nova
• Creating duplicate MB as required
• Watching for variegation or mutation in crops and reporting them to Research and Lab Director.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
