Position Description: Staff Accountant

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Hinkle Contracting is seeking a qualified Staff Accountant. This position will play a significant role in the day to day functions of the Accounting department. This position will be located in the Lexington, KY office and will report directly to the Controller.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Financial and operational transaction processing in General Ledgers for business line operations;
- Participate in accurate and timely closing of General Ledgers on a monthly basis;
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis;
- Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts with large transactional volumes;
- Inventory controls and reconciliation;
- Communicate/work with SSC functional areas and plants to research reconciling items;
- Business line annual budget preparation;
- Prepare and distribute reports and provide analysis/support as needed on a monthly basis;
- Complete ad hoc projects;
- Respond to questions and issues and communicate responses to operations and other functional areas;
- Deliver results individually and as a key team member in a fast paced, high performance culture;
- Identify process improvement opportunities;
- Internal and external customer and market management;
- Performance and result management;
- Support for assigned business area;
- Demonstrated openness to change, flexibility, and adaptability;
- Establish trust and relationships;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Ability to simultaneously manage several projects;
- Demonstrated drive and initiative;
- Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills;
- Sustainable management (i.e. compliance with laws and regulations);
- Professional competence (i.e. knowledge of the industry and cross-functional understanding; and
- All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
- CMA/CPA preferred but not required;
- 1-5 years of experience preferred;
- Understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles;
- A proven track record in meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively as part of a team are essential;
- Critical thinker, excellent analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to details;
- Solid Excel skills;
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral, or diagram form;
- Previous related experience in construction or manufacturing field is preferred;
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
- Be able to work overtime when required;
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required;
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
- Maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements;
- Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical;
- Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
