STAFF ACCOUNTANT
Job Summary: The Staff Accountant will be the primary point of contact for all accounting functions within the finance department. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, success-driven individual who has the desire to succeed every day and who will thrive in an interactive, project-based, fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Reports To: Controller
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepare and record journal entries and resolve account issues.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts during and after month end.
- Assist with all phases of monthly financial statement generation.
- Analysis of variances between actual financial results and budget.
- Preparation of numerous monthly summaries, spreadsheets and charts utilizing Excel and Access.
- Accounting for fixed assets.
- Coordinate annual unclaimed property filing.
- Monthly sales tax return.
- Review and approve sales tax exemption requests.
- Provide support and backup for receivables and payables areas.
- Financial analysis projects as assigned.
- Any other projects or duties as assigned.
Experience & Skills Required:
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required.
- Two (2) – Six (6) years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance.
- Prior retail accounting experience is preferred, but not required.
- Advanced Excel skills are required (pivot tables, charts, V-lookups, etc.).
- Strong aptitude for technology and software use; knowledge of Microsoft SL, Crystal Reports and Access a plus

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, tablets, and other office equipment. This position may require some travel to outlying store locations.
Physical Demands: The physical requirements described here are necessary to perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may stand and/or walk frequently in an 8/10-hour workday.
Expected Hours of Work: Given the nature of the position, there will be some overtime and weekends required on occasion, specifically during month end closing. Due to financial statement closing requirements, vacations generally cannot be taken during the first 5-10 days of any month – all time off, regardless of time of month must have prior approval from the Sr. Accounting Manager.
