Position Overview
Terns is seeking a Sr. Vice President of Medical Affairs. This role will be the primary point person for the strategic development and execution of the Medical Affairs across all of Terns’ therapeutic areas. The position will be a key collaborator between the clinical development, research and commercial as well as with the external stakeholders
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the overall development and execution of Medical Affairs strategy
- Develop a robust medical engagement strategy with leading physicians, KOLs, thought leaders and key people at public health organizations
- Develop and lead Key Opinion Leader Outreach, publication strategy and planning, CME education, symposia, and congress planning.
- Lead the medical affairs team to engage with research, development and corporate functions to ensure robust development plans and external communication of Terns science, including publication activities
- Establish policies and procedures for key Medical Affairs activities, ensuring compliance with the principles of Scientific Engagement, including leading discussions around compassionate use programs.
- Ensure alignment of medical plans with clinical development plans, scientific research and publications, regulatory and commercial strategy
- Develop and establish Medical Affairs’ infrastructure, including development of SOPs, best practices, platforms, training and workshops
- Oversee the hiring and oversight of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and/or outsourcing of liaison activities, as appropriate, to develop disease awareness, medical training, messaging in support of launch
- Represent Terns as the key liaison with public health bodies and medical and scientific societies worldwide.
- Lead the Medical strategy for Advisory Board meetings
Ensure compliance with legal/regulatory/ethical business requirements- Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the broader Terns organization.
- Engage in outreach to relevant patient advocacy organizations
Qualifications
- MD or non-US equivalent of MD degree and/or PhD. with 10 years relevant experience
- Extensive track record in opinion leader engagement and mapping
- Prior history building medical affairs teams
- Industry experience in hematologic malignancies, liver disease and metabolic disease medical affairs activities is strongly desired.
- Knowledge and experience with FDA, EMA, ICH, and GCP guidelines.
- Prior interactions with public health agencies, medical and scientific societies.
- Experience in oncology or a related therapeutic area.
- Proven ability to plan and execute Medical Strategies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail, internal drive to generate high-quality work, and sense of passion and urgency to achieve team and program goals.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and strategic planning skills.
- Strong people skills commensurate with the need to work closely with CROs, investigators, consultants, and team members across functions.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills to meet the needs of varied audiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $325K to $415k + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
