As a Sr Principal Structural Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to design, evaluate, and certify our cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and composite structures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
Sierra Space—based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL—designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of structural design standards, processes, and guidelines for both metallic and composite structure
  • Lead the integration of structural design tools into our digital environment
  • Support integration of Advanced parametric modeling with internal loads finite element models

Must-haves:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically 17 or more years of relevant experience
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for required education
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Experience working all phases of a development program from preliminary design through certification
  • Experience working with metallic and composite materials including a strong understanding of material selection and manufacturing and production processes

Preferred:
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience using Advanced CAD tools such as NX or CATIA
  • Experience with Fibersim or Composites Work Bench
  • Experience with parametric design and Model Based Definition
  • Experience with MRB support
  • Experience with woven, unitape, sandwich design
  • Experience with complex machining and sheet metal design
  • Experience with 3D Printed Part Design
  • Experience lofting complex surfaces
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

Salary range; $144,936.50 - $199,287.69

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
