Basic Function
The Sr. Net Zero Portfolio Manager will lead the development of 2050 NetZero roadmaps and intermediate 2030 milestones for sites under responsibility. This role will develop, implement and drive the execution of the NetZero strategy, spanning from ideation to realization.
A key focus area will be the development of a site portfolio of project proposals and front-end business cases to be prioritized in a project prioritization process. The scope includes planning and coordinating the integration of different workstreams (technical, regulatory, commercial business development, and infrastructure development) into one comprehensive program; including an overall schedule or roadmap, key milestones, interdependency deadlines, and both individual project and program risk assessment with mitigation planning. The business case for the program must meet company criteria for overall return on investment and this role will work directly with the O&P Business, I&D Business, Sustainability, and Circularity & Low Carbon Solutions to maintain an updated view of the value of carbon within the marketplace from both a regulatory and a price premium perspective.
The individual in this position must have experience managing large highly complicated projects or programs. They will be a strategic thinker with capabilities in collaboration, communication, organization, economic assessment, identifying and managing technology and project execution risk, and driving for results. The individual must have a strong knowledge of the petrochemical industry and a developing understanding of the pathways for the energy transition; including Renewable Energy, CCS, and Hydrogen.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Accountable for the business case for the sites under responsibility
- Accountable to develop 2050 NetZero roadmaps and 2030 milestones for sites under responsibility in close collaboration with the NetZero Roadmap Strategy Team, Infrastructure Development Manager, and Business Development Team
- Responsible for delivering initial business cases and scoping of project proposals, acting as project development owner to navigate proposals through the prioritization process stage gates
- Ensure appropriate project management resource for endorsed projects, depending on scope and complexity (technical, commercial, authorities)
- Accountable for securing funding for the various stages of concept development and project execution
- Accountable for site roadmap portfolio risk register, identifying interaction between project risks and implementation of agreed mitigations
- Ensure that project managers coordinate all technical, commercial, manufacturing, permitting, legal, financial etc. aspects of the project portfolio as required for the delivery of the Business Case
- Owns site roadmap schedule, status tracking, solution feasibility and budget; including planning for commercial and infrastructure requirements
- Supports the Business development manager on development of commercial contracts
- Delivers the program scope, related milestones and specifications to meet the 2050 NetZero targets and requirements
- Understands and coordinates internal/external interactions to advance the program, business cases and contract development across project portfolio
- Identifies tradeoffs between cost, schedule, and deliverable product
- Ensure communication between affected stakeholders
- Organizes Site NetZero Team meetings, including presentation and action follow-up. Escalates project proposals and unresolved issues to NetZero Steerco
Skills
- Experience in developing business cases, evaluating technologies and assessing opportunities
- Basic knowledge of economic modeling
- Translate a strategy into an actionable plan
- Experience in developing partnerships and managing relationships
- Demonstrated ability in building effective teams
- Understanding of value drivers in the B2B industrial value chains
- R&D and Technology skills
Qualifications
- University degree in engineering , technology, energy management, or other related disciplines
- Minimum of 15 years experience working in the Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining, or equivalent industry on major capital projects valued over $100MM is strongly preferred.
- Experience in project economic modeling and prioritizing multiple projects is strongly preferred
- International experience in project development, management and/or analysis, preferable in a multi stakeholder environment
- Experience with leadership of cross functional teams
