Speech Language Pathologist

General Definition of Work
Performs difficult professional work locating, identifying and serving speech-language impaired students,
preparing and maintaining student and program records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent
or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Related Services Coordinator.

Essential Functions
- Provides speech therapy services to exceptional children students.
- Evaluates, screens and observes students.
- Write evaluation reports, progress notes, and individualized education plans.
- Participates in individual education plan meetings with parents.
- Plans appropriate therapy instructions.
- Communicates with parents, teachers, administrators and coordinates therapy with the teachers
- Schedules meetings with parents.
- Performs other related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of speech/language diagnosis and therapy principles, practices and

- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology with coursework in Speech/Language Pathology.

Physical Requirements
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking and sitting and
occasionally requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or
crawling, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed
