Job Description


Tour I- 12:00AM-8:00AM

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision of the Sergeant (Senior Special Officer): Protect life and property, lawful use of force when necessary and reasonable.

Enforce rules and regulations of the Health& Hospitals Corporation:

  • Carry our Law Enforcement functions in an efficient manner, issue lawful summonses, related paperwork and process arrest, if necessary.
  • Provide a safe environment for staff, visitors and patients from adolescents to geriatrics.
  • Patrol designated areas to maintain order, preserve the peace and safeguard life and property.
  • Respond to emergencies as directed by the supervisors.
  • Maintain daily activities memo book.
  • Make Fire/Safety Environment rounds and conduct fire watches.
  • Monitor persons entering leaving the complex (Package Inspections, ID Checks, etc.)
  • Make Cash Management and Payroll Escorts.
  • Perform "No Smoking" patrols in all buildings and issuing Environmental Control
  • Board Summonses and in-house "No Smoking" Summonses, where warranted.
  • Work extended hours and rotating shifts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; or
2. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma and six months of full-time work experience.
3. Candidates must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officer certification prior to beginning their official tour of duty. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.Continuous employment with HHC is contingent upon satisfactory completion of both entry level and annual recertification training programs.

In addition, candidates must meet certain requirements specified in New York State Criminal Procedure Law, Section 2.10:
1. Candidates must have reached their 20th birthday by the date of appointment;
2. Candidates must be United States citizens and residents of New York State at the time of appointment; and
3. Candidates must be of good character. The following are among the factors which may be cause for disqualifications: (a) conviction of an offense, the nature of which indicates lack of good moral character, or disposition toward violence or disorder, or which is punishable by one or more years of imprisonment; (b) two or more convictions of an offense, where such convictions indicate a disrespect for the law; (c) discharge from employment, where such discharge indicates poor behavior or inability to adjust to discipline; (d) dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces.

Special Note:
A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions based on the operational needs of the network/facility. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment. A four-year High School diploma or its education equivalent.
