At UConn Health, the Mok Lab is seeking a motivated Special Payroll Research Assistant interested in investigating antibiotic treatment failure in the bacterial pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a project centered on the elucidating the phenotypic changes and adaptation of bacteria in response to antibiotics and polymicrobial interactions for 8 to 10 weeks in the summer. The candidate will learn to apply a range of microbiology, molecular biology, and synthetic biology approaches. They will also gain the experience needed to successfully complete an undergraduate thesis and be competitive for graduate or professional education programs upon graduation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant program (e.g., biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, engineering) with an interest in scientific research and learning new techniques are encouraged to apply.

• Additional skills needed include:

• Excellent organization.

• Attention to details.

• Ability to work with others and take directions from advisors.

• Molecular cloning and bacterial culturing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidates with experience with relevant experimental techniques such as constructing bacterial gene expression reporters.

Hourly Rate: $15:00 per hour. This is a temporary position with no fringe benefits.

Schedule: 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
