Responsibilities section:
- Experience in echocardiography with knowledge regarding scanning infants, children, and young adults in unrepaired and repaired congenital heart disease is preferred.
- Pediatric echocardiograms: Performs 2-D, M-mode, color Doppler, pulsed wave Doppler, and continuous wave Doppler. This includes all measurements as needed for a complete study to include parasternal long axis, parasternal short axis, apical 4-chamber, apical long axis, and apical 2-chamber, and subcostal 4-chamber view, subcostal short axis, subcostal RV outflow, abdominal aorta, the suprasternal long axis of the aortic arch, and RV outflow to evaluate the MPA and branch PAs. Applies critical thinking skills to assess the patient condition to provide any additional views that will assist the cardiologist in the care/treatment of the patient.
- Is capable of interrelating knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathology to the operation of ultrasonography to produce diagnostic quality 2-D images and Doppler frequency shift recordings.
- Some travel with the clinical team to outreach locations in central/south Texas required
- Completion of preliminary reports, IT/PACS support, and echo cart maintenance
- Prepares patients for physicians.
- Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education.
- Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
- Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Code appropriately for services performed; submit completed billing work sheets daily.
- Notify Patient Service Associate of additional services performed which require authorization.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Maintain archives/records scans.
- Maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual’s religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.
- Comply with safety and security training and OSHA standards/regulations.
- Complete all required Compliance Training.
- Participates in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities.
- Participates in professional development activities and meetings
- Maintains professional affiliations.
- Performs other assigned duties as directed
- An individual must possess a current/valid certification in diagnostic ultrasound

Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Sonographer program – Associates degree is required.
- Maintain or be eligible for certification the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
- Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
- At least 1-2 year experience in pediatric cardiac or adult cardiac ultrasound preferred
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) credential is required. OR GIVE 6 months to get credentials. Preferred certification in pediatric and adult echocardiography (RCDS).
