Job description
Cancer Angels of San Diego (CASD), founded in September of 2007, assists Stage IV cancer patients suffering from financial hardship. i.e. financial toxicity, with the basic necessities of life. To our knowledge, CASD is the only charity of its kind in the nation in that we commit to the patient for as long as they are in treatment and/or unable to work to earn a sufficient income to enable basic survival. CASD’s financial help reduces their stress, keeps them sheltered, fed, and able to receive necessary treatments to fight the cancer and focus on their health.
Currently, we are hiring a full-time person to fulfill these responsibilities:
- Work with clients to assess needs, evaluate applications, determine eligibility for funding;
- Interface with physicians, social workers, grantors, community leaders, non-profit organizations, philanthropists, local government agencies, etc;
- Maintain fiscal responsibility and work alongside our accountant to determine monthly payments;
- Keep up to date, thorough and HIPAA compliant records;
- Search and discover other funding sources for our patients such as 211, Mama’s Kitchen, Jewish Family Services, and government agencies;
- Work alongside the founder and her team in all aspects of the charity including interviewing patients and donors for our newsletter and marketing materials;
- Help fill out and submit disability and insurance forms if necessary;
- Educate the public, private, and non-profit sector about our cause and the situation of these Stage IV cancer patients. May include public speaking, presentations, speaking to potential donor companies;
This job offers enormous potential growth as we would like to reach across California then nationwide. Depending on your motivation and abilities, you will work alongside the director to lead the charity’s growth and sustainability.
Computer skills, familiarity with social media, and good writing skills required.
College degree or three years equivalent in social work required, LCSW preferred
Salary: commensurate with experience

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
