POSITION SUMMARY: The Social Services Offices Assistant contributes to the effective running of the Social Services office to meet the needs of our Tribal members and our Social Services staff. The Social Services Office Assistant is responsible for the general administrative operations of the office. The Program Assistant will be instrumental in maintaining reception duties, coordinating between the Social Services office and Tish-Non Community Center, as well providing ongoing administrative support to Social Services staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Screen and direct telephone calls.
- Maintain department files.
- Process all mail, correspondence and information to and from the programs office.
- Interagency collaboration with other departments.
- Maintain the office equipment, including organizing phone coverage as needed.
- Maintain the safety, organization, and professional appearance of the front office space.
- Order and organize program and class supplies.
- Informally coordinate communication among department staff employees by keeping track of schedules and individuals whereabouts.
- Greet visitors and interact with tribal members.
- Keep photocopies of agency and department forms available in the front office.
- Process, submit and track tribal benefit request forms
- Keep accurate, organized records of social services and benefit receipts
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be willing to work with a variety of people
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
- Proven track record of ability to maintain confidentiality
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School G.E.D. required
- A.A. or B.A./B.S. preferred
- At least three years of experience of program management
- Experience working in Native American communities preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Shall possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to be covered by agency's vehicle insurance.
- Hiring contingent upon passing a background check.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
LANUGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
- Must be able to work with Native American people and be sensitive to their culture.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts of Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
