Position Summary
This position supports the function of the Sexual and Relationship Violence Response Program through direct service, education and outreach, and administrative support. This position will be responsible for providing direct services to students affected by dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, or stalking; providing safety planning, requisite reporting options, advocacy, resource referral, and case management.
The confidential advocate will work closely with campus partners and external service providers to coordinate supportive response plans that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive while ensuring that students are informed of PSU policies and reporting options.
Throughout the screening process, candidates will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications:
- Advocacy experience working with survivors of sexual and/or relationship violence from diverse academic, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those who experience a disability, are trans/queer, are a person of color, and/or immigrant/refugee.
- Experience using trauma-informed practices to respond appropriately to survivors of sexual and relationship violence.
- Knowledge and experience working around Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, and Clery regulations, guidance, and laws.
- Experience providing culturally responsive outreach and coordination activities.
- Experience providing support to survivors of sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, sexual harassment, or stalking.
- Experience with crisis intervention response.

Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of social justice as practices toward the liberation of all, operating under Black, queer and trans, and feminist frameworks.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Social Work, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Race and Ethnic Studies, Education, etc.
- Two years of experience in a diverse setting coordinating services or programs related to serving survivors.
- Ability to successfully complete 40 hours of state-mandated campus advocacy training.
- Ability to be on-call during evenings and weekends as part of a staff rotation (with additional compensation).
- Possession of a valid State-issued driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Student Development, etc.
- Understanding of Title IX and its implications for and impacts on student survivors.
- Work experience or student experience at Portland State University.
- Bilingual proficiency.
- Experience navigating support services for folks with disabilities.

Work Days/Hours
Monday to Friday, generally 8am to 5pm (occasional on-call during evenings and weekends)
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The approved annual salary for this position is $52,824.
