Department Overview Motorola Solutions' Next Generation 9-1-1 business is made up of two key segments: Emergency Call Routing and Emergency Call Handling. This role reports directly to the Sr. Infrastructure Engineering Manager for Motorola's NextGen 9-1-1 Emergency Call Handling product, VESTA NXT.
Job Description
Motorola's public-safety software requires system engineers that possess a unique understanding of critical infrastructure components. These components are ultimately responsible for the stability, resiliency and availability of the entire platform, forming the foundation of the overall solution. This role is responsible for automating the deployment of these critical infrastructure components and engineering creative solutions. This role requires knowledge of both theoretical and operational aspects of system components. Critical thinking and low-level system analysis are essential to this role. Creative thinking is also required to solve problems in an often constrained & regulated environment.

High Level Skill Areas:
Linux

Experience with package management (ie. RPM, DNF, YUM, APT)

OSS Databases (ie. PostgreSQL)

HTTP Servers and related proxies (ie. NGINX, HAProxy, HTTPD)

Building automation pipelines (ie. Ansible, Jenkins, Groovy, Github Actions)

(nice to have) Service mesh experience (ie. Consul)

Hardware

Solid understanding of hardware fundamentals, hyper converged and composable infrastructure (ie. firmware, storage, memory, compute)

Basic hardware staging knowledge (ie. hypervisor installation, management networking, security domains)

Networking

Fundamental understanding of the OSI Model

Layer2, Layer3 configurations of Switches, Routers, Firewalls

Packet captures (ie. tcpdump, wireshark, ngrep)

Virtual Machines & Containers

Hypervisors (ie. KVM, Proxmox, VMWare)

Microservices (ie. Docker, Kubernetes)

Container orchestration & bootstrapping (ie. OCI)

Scripting/DevOps

Infrastructure as Code (ie. Ansible)

Systems programming (ie. Bash, Shell, Python)

Automated configuration management (ie. Ansible, Chef)

IP Telephony

Protocols (ie. SIP, RTP, SDP, etc)

Media Servers (ie. Asterisk, Kamailio)

Written and verbal communication (strong listener, ability to write)

Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills

Self-starter; ability to work on issues without significant guidance

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
