ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES
$41,605.64 - $64,488.74
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for answering the Adult Protective Services intake phone line, writing Adult Protective Services intake reports, maintaining the APS computer log of cases including entry of case findings; acting in a supportive role to the Adult Services Supervisor and the Adult Services team social workers; handling Targeted Housing Program referrals; 5026 and 5027 data entry; gathering information for the management end of the month report.
Employees in this position must be able to handle multiple on-going tasks, recognize crisis calls and be able to respond calmly and appropriately; be familiar with and able to organize and report statistical data as it relates to Adult Protective Services; have a working knowledge of the various interdepartmental and state data bases; be familiar with county resources for the elderly and disabled; be able to maintain confidentiality regarding client information.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED
Interview and assess adult protective services intake calls, and face-to-face reporter contact, with input to the Adult Services Supervisor for final screening decision; assess APS referral with working knowledge of APS criteria sufficient to be able to provide input as to maltreatment type(s); produce written APS report that utilizes the APS intake form format; maintain an on-going, accurate computer log of calls received, the screening decision, and eventual case decision for each APS report.
Maintain a pending court cases log to track the progress of in-court cases; work with social workers to ensure that information in the log is correct for use by the staff attorneys, management, and the social workers.
Summarize monthly data on Adult Service referrals received and provide data to Supervisor for Management Report.
Assist social workers by requesting medical records when needed, typing/sending letters as requested/required.
Be familiar with the Targeted Housing Program, the available properties, and the procedure for responding to requests for housing. Maintain a log of individuals who are on the waiting list as well as those in process to receive housing.
Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of the Adult Protective Services Manual, the corresponding APS forms, and the local policies
Demonstrate considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework, group work and community problems; knowledge of organizations and community resources.
Demonstrate skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s needs.
Communicate effectively with clients, agency employees and supervisors and to produce accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports on time.
Provide telephone support to callers and other agency employees.
Establish and maintain a professional attitude and effective working relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors.
Able to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work and will communicate effectively with individuals and organizations in the community as necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience
The minimum level of formal training necessary for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience; or a four year degree in human service field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work, counseling, adult development and gerontological issues, and two years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four year college/university and three years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent of training and experience.
