Join a global team dedicated to New Product Development in the Low Voltage Motor Control Center Business, responsible for CENTERLINE 2100 and 2500 MCC Products. This is a Senior Development Engineering position that will participate as a member of cross-functional Development teams which develops industrial control products. Create and prove the feasibility of design concepts and track the functional requirements of programs relative to product cost, performance, and timing. Lead functional portion of projects through entire design cycle. Accountable to meet product requirements and design specifications. Create sound Engineering documentation and records as specified by our Common Product Development Process. Must be able to evaluate and develop various designs and manufacturing methods to optimize product functionality and manufacturability. Additional responsibilities include supervising major tooling orders, overseeing functional and certification testing, and directing one or more mechanical designers through the execution of a project.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate mature skills and proven track record in design and development, working in a cross-functional product development team.
- Engage in product development of one or more products for a variety of standard product configurations and create a foundation for the Engineer-to-Order offerings.
- Create layout concepts and develop packaging designs for the product.
- Design and development work on new and existing products and practical solutions to complex problems.
- Normally is self-directed but may oversee the work of designers or contractors.
- Provide technical and administrative mentorship to less senior engineers.
- Invent, innovate, or otherwise use initiative and ingenuity to create new product concepts or product improvement concepts so that Rockwell Automation will have proprietary technical advantage over the competition.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
- Up to 5% travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Master of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of new product development experience.
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of CAD design experience, CEO/Pro Engineer or SolidWorks. Complex shapes are essential. Experience designing complex mechanical components and assemblies, including moving parts and mechanisms, large assemblies >200 components.
- An understanding of plastic, cast and sheet-metal piece-part fabrication techniques, capabilities costs and limitations for the practical, effective and low-cost design of products.
- Familiar with industrial control and power conversion products: circuit breakers, starters, AC Drives, etc.
- Working knowledge of applicable standards such as ANSI, NEMA, UL, IEC
- Familiar with the requirements of ALM, PLM and MRP systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate at a technical level.
- Ability to bring product design from conception to production using a stage-gate development process while working with a cross-functional product marketing, quality, global manufacturing, supplier, and remote engineering team.
- Capable of making basic project decisions with minimal input and leading functional portions of development programs to complete project objectives.
- An understanding of laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electronic instrumentation, electrical power, rotating electrical machinery, hand tools, power tools and general laboratory cleanliness.
- Experience designing products for use in industrial environments which are subject to a range of temperatures, shock & vibration and ingress protection.
- Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise software.
- Experience with Simulation and Modeling (Ansys preferred)
- Experience with DfSS tools.
