Garland Libraries is seeking an energetic and experienced librarian to help promote the Library’s mission and goals. The Senior Librarian for Electronic Resources is responsible for selecting, evaluating, managing and providing support for electronic resources, databases, and the website for Garland Libraries. The person in this position works closely with selectors, librarians, and the systems administrator on technical aspects of the virtual collection and provides general reference and reader’s advisory to the public. The Senior Librarian for Electronic Resources position reports to the Public Services Administrator. The weekly work schedule will include nights and weekends, with availability outside of regular hours to address critical and time-sensitive library needs.

Essential Job Functions:
- Monitor trends in electronic resources and evaluate community demographics.
- Select and purchase appropriate electronic resources based on personal evaluations, recommendations from professional sources, staff input, and community needs.
- Arrange for demos and/or beta tests of services for staff and gather feedback for informed decision making.
- Manage and update content, layout, and functions of the website.
- Manage communications with vendors as they relate to electronic resources.
- Maintain and update records and files to include vendor contacts, pricing, subscription and renewal notes.
- Maintain usage statistics and compile narrative and statistical reports as they relate to electronic resources.
- Provide technical assistance to patrons on library’s electronic resources.
- Arrange for and coordinate staff training.
- Process emails received through the Library’s e-Support account and distribute to appropriate staff as necessary.
- Assist patrons in the use of public computers and related software, the catalog, Internet, and print management system.
- Assist in preparation of budget projections and financial reports as they relate to electronic resources.
- Participate in day-to-day library operations including, but not limited to, opening and closing routines and banking/cash handling procedures, and performing Librarian-in-Charge duties as needed.
- Resolve patron problems by adhering to and modifying library services consistent with established library policies and procedures.
- Other projects as assigned.
Education/ Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience as a professional Librarian, with
- 2 or more years’ experience selecting electronic resources, indexes, and database collections, with primary responsibility for all, or a major part of electronic resources and collections
- Experience working directly with content and the integrated library system (ILS) as well as networks and systems
- Training or experience in using markup languages or languages such as JavaScript, PHP, SQL, API plug-ins, etc.
- Recent experience working in a public library
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of electronic resources, indexes, databases, and web portal content and functions
- Knowledge of current principles and practices in public libraries, including public library operations, reference services, readers’ advisory, library materials selection, and library technology
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Content Management Systems for support of the Library’s website.
- Ability to handle customer issues and complaints appropriately
- Ability to analyze library related problems and take appropriate action
- Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others, including other City employees and the public, individually and in a team
- Excellent written and oral communication, including the ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar
- Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer monitor, perform extensive reading, and maintain equipment / work area appropriately
- Ability to speak and read Spanish or Vietnamese is preferred, but not a requirement
