Zurich North America is currently looking to add a Senior Instructional Designer to our Underwriting University organization. Our preference is to have this position based out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, but we are also open to talent in located anywhere in the country. We are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will collaborate with your manager to set a hybrid schedule that supports you, your customers, and the team.

The Senior Instructional Designer plays a critical role in the success of Zurich’s Underwriting University. The role is instrumental in building upon the Zurich Underwriting Universities’ commitment to hiring, developing, retaining, and promoting top talent. You will be asked to analyze, design, and develop learning resources key to the continued growth of our employees which is critical to the continued success and growth of Zurich North America.

Underwriting University’s Senior Instructional Designer:

  • Designs and develops moderate to complex learning solutions within the insurance, sales, leadership, management, professional development, or technical system and tools training portfolios for all levels of the underwriting organization
  • Uses proven instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and various modalities to design and author solutions that bring impactful and measurable change to the organization
  • Works closely with key business contacts, Subject Matter Experts, and other Learning & Development team members to validate needs, identify options, scope effort, define objectives, design solution structure, develop materials, and test usability
  • Contributes to creation of design and development standards, team guidelines, and department initiatives.

Key Accountabilities for Underwriting University’s Senior Instructional Designer:

  • Participates in the needs analysis and solution identification/recommendation process by recommending approaches to close performance gaps or improve quality and productivity related performance
  • Defines learning objectives, the target outcomes, and the instructional framework to achieve the objectives and outcomes for new and existing learning solutions
  • Determines the best method for delivery of learning to customers when designing and developing core and supporting material
  • Proficient with course development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Unity, Captivate, Elucidat, Adobe Express, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Creates the evaluation approach and maintenance strategy to measure and improve the efficacy of the learning solutions
  • Leads internal quality assurance and testing cycles
  • Heavily involved in learning solution pilots and train-the-trainer activities
  • Provides regular project and effort status updates to Team Leads and Program Managers
  • May represent North American region on global Learning & Development strategic initiatives and projects
  • Shares design and development knowledge within Learning & Development team
  • Actively participate in external organizations / learning profession both inside and outside the company
  • Follows trends in the training field in order to provide the best and latest techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Communications or Project Management area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Communications or Project Management area
    AND
  • Experience in strategic and operational consulting or business systems integration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced instructional design capabilities and skills, including the advanced ability to comprehend and translate technical information to multiple knowledge and performance levels
  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • Ability to grasp the client’s business culture, processes, systems, and operating environment
  • Advanced knowledge of course development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Unity, Captivate, Elucidat, Adobe Express, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Advanced ability to utilize Microsoft Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and M.S. Project Professional
  • Advanced consulting skills working with business partners or clients
  • Strong team player
  • Intermediate project management skills
  • Experience in the financial services/insurance industry
  • Knowledge of the global learning and development marketplace, consultants, and providers of L&D solutions
  • Intermediate meeting facilitation experience
  • Intermediate vendor management experience

The salary range for this role is $101,000-$126,300. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed remotely in any US state. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
