Summary of Role:
SunPower is seeking an experienced Corporate Compliance and Privacy Counsel to drive our corporate compliance and data privacy initiatives. You’ll play a key role in providing practical, actionable advice our teams on evolving legal issues related to corporate compliance, data privacy, and data security. You will also look for opportunities to distinguish SunPower as a corporate compliance and privacy thought leader, using your expertise to foster an organizational culture that puts corporate compliance and the privacy of our customers first. The role requires a self-motivated and highly collaborative individual who excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior management to establish a robust and accountable corporate compliance framework that addresses conflicts of interest, bribery, corruption, insider trading, and other related risks.
  • Build scalable, effective policies and procedures that safeguard customer information, in compliance with data privacy and security regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other state laws.
  • Work with stakeholders to scope and conduct regular risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate privacy and security threats and integrate best practices into company operations.
  • Deliver training and resources to employees to promote corporate compliance, ethical business practices, data privacy, and security, including effective communication of evolving legal requirements and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience at a leading law-firm (or government agency) and in-house legal department.
  • J.D. degree from an ABA Accredited law school with an active state bar membership.
  • Experience in product counseling on issues related to consumer protection, privacy, data protection.
  • Subject matter expertise regarding global privacy laws and regulations (including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, as well as GLBA and other US state and international data protection frameworks), as well as experience negotiating data protection terms in a variety of agreements based on these privacy frameworks.
  • Strong project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills necessary to work closely with members of different business groups and functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex compliance, privacy and security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to rapidly adapt to changing priorities, manage workflow, create and improve processes, set priorities, and deliver results.
  • Motivated and proactive self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work efficiently with teams under minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications in data privacy and security, such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, and/or related certifications.
  • Experience with agile software development, machine learning and software development processes, and implementing data privacy by design and default.
  • Background in solar, battery storage, electric vehicle, smart home or semiconductor technology, including equipment, software and devices, tools and processes .
  • Preferred location near SunPower offices in Richmond, CA, Bellevue, WA, or Austin, TX, with remote options available.
