Job description
This is routine work safeguarding major City buildings, equipment, facilities or other property against unauthorized entry, loss or damage from theft, fire, adverse weather conditions, vandalism, or other causes; and includes enforcing City rules or regulations at a building or area where people congregate.
Salary: $16.07 - $21.85 Hourly

To QualifyMinimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "D" Security License.
- Have some experience in security work.
- Have some skill in the operation of a computer.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Are able to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to prepare and maintain routine records and reports.
- Are able to detect possible improper conduct and take appropriate action to correct or report the condition.
- Are able to acquire detailed knowledge of the buildings and grounds patrolled and of applicable rules and regulations.
- Are able to walk long hours alone, both indoors and out, under varying work and climatic conditions.
- Are able to remain alert on evening and night shifts if assigned.
- Are able to maintain composure under stressful situations.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
