This position is responsible for performing analyses of drilling fluid products and various other oilfield-related samples in a laboratory environment. Documents results of experiment in written technical reports and company data management software. Develops new work instructions, recommends appropriate methods and solutions for projects. Maintains product quality data and makes suggestions of possible improvements to product quality workflow. Provides technical support to internal and occasionally to external customers. This position will actively perform work on the bench, write reports, collaborate with other departments, interpret data, interface with management and provide technical solutions on fluids and product issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conducts laboratory testing of drilling fluids, oilfield products, and oilfield-related samples using analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to: GC-MS, HPLC, IC, ICP, FTIR, SEM, XRD, XRF, rotational viscometers, pour point & flash point analyzer, etc.
- Performs quality control testing on manufactured products and raw materials by following work instructions, testing methods and product specifications.
- Writes technical reports to present results of experimentation and interpretation of findings. Alerts management of questionable product quality or out-of-spec results identified during testing.
- Develop standard operating procedures and new analytical methods in support of customer requests. Demonstrates creativity in solving scientific problems. Experience with method development in chromatography techniques desirable.
- Participates in research projects, in support or leadership role according to project scope. Contributes occasionally to the company technical achievements through external publications or presentations of research work.
- Updates Management on project status, opportunities, challenges, etc.
- Performs calibration, routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Maintains inventory of chemicals and lab supplies, and follows good laboratory housekeeping practices.
- Operates safely in the laboratory environment. Knowledgeable of the chemical hygiene plan and the current laboratory safety standards.
- Adheres to QMS (Quality Management System) requirements and contributes ideas for continuous improvement of laboratory practices. Organizes and maintains the laboratory for effective experimentation.
- Participates in industry sponsored organizations to promote Newpark’s goals.
- Participates in customer/vendor interactions and technical exchanges. Provides technical guidance to others and is consulted by colleagues with a high degree of confidence placed on subject matter expertise.
- Execution of various projects, processes and/or initiatives supporting identified strategic direction.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Science/Chemistry
Field Experience:
- 2+ years directly related experience at Bachelors level
- 4+ years in oilfield fluids testing preferred
Licenses/Certificates:
- Drivers License
- Ability to obtain US Passport for international travel preferred
- Drilling Fluids Certification preferred
