Safety Inspectors report to a Safety Manager and assist in the achievement of the Safety Department's established goals and objectives.. They perform all assigned functions in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include conducting occupational safety inspections as requested by the employer, interpreting and applying applicable state and federal safety and health standards and evaluating employer safety and health programs for effectively controlling workplace safety and health. The nature of the position requires the ability to identify and clearly explain safety hazards, to effectively communicate procedures for immediate abatement or control, and to recognize, communicate and encourage safety and health program implementation or improvements.

Position Requirements:

Licenses - Current/Valid State Driver s License

Education and Experience - Graduation from a four year college or university, preferable with a major in BS Safety, industrial engineering, engineering operations, or a closely related curriculum and fours years of experience in occupational safety and health inspections; or completion of a two year community college or technical institute course in industrial management technology; industrial engineering technology, or a closely related curriculum and six years of experience in occupational safety and health inspections; or high school and eight years of occupational safety and health experience including four years in safety inspections.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed on job sites; minimum office time for paperwork.
  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
  • Able to work 40+ hours per week, overtime travel as required.

Physical Function:

  • Hear and see well (either naturally or with correction.)
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
  • Speak clearly.
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands and fingers.
  • Bend and stoop.
