Job description
1. Read and interpret shop orders properly.
2. Correctly identify raw materials to be converted.
3. Record and report production to the office.
4. Check rolls for condition and against the shop order to ensure the grade, basis weight, size, color, ruling etc. are correct.
5. Record the roll numbers and weights for the rolls in each set.
6. Remove the headers and wrappers and dispose in the proper containers.
7. Check unwinds direction to ensure proper direction.
8. Insert shafts and adjust and tighten collars on machines requiring shafts.
9. Assist machine operators in loading and lining up rolls.
Physical Abilities:
1. Continuously required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or touch.
2. Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
3. Continuously required to lift up to 50 lbs.
4. Frequently required to lift up to 100 lbs.
5. Frequently required to use a utility knife.
6. Occasionally required to use socket wrench with breaker bar handle, mall, and router.
7. Sensory requirements are communication, hearing, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus vision.
Hazard Risks:
1. Special hazards are working with moving parts and exposure to non-toxic fumes or airborne particles.
2. Noise level is loud.
3. High level risk of back injury from lifting shaft.
4. Moderate level of pinch injuries to fingers from shaft.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Perform general housekeeping.
2. Communicate with other shifts if needed.
3. Train other employees to perform the functions of the position.
4. Empty broke boxes of recyclable paper.
5. Empty junk boxes with rotating fork lift truck.
6. Bale broke trimmings as required.
Education, Experiences and Skills Required:
1. Must be trainable by the other employees qualified in this classification.
2. Must possess physical characteristics to safely and efficiently perform the duties of the job.
3. Must possess legible handwriting skills.
Safety:
1. Observe all safety issues, practice safe working habits and report any unsafe situations to a supervisor.
2. Be adequately trained in lock out/tag out and all other safety related programs required by the company.
3. Required to wear steel toe shoes, eye and hearing protection when on the plant floor.
