Location: Fort Worth, TX
Base Pay: $31.00-$46.50

This position has up to $15,000 extra pay available upon new employment with WHS as a full-time, Surgical Services RN.

Shift: M, Tu, Th, F; 6:30a-5:00p

Requirements
1) Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Texas (or compact licensure) required
2) BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required
3) Call is required
4) Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred
5) Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the surgical setting preferred

New hires will have 60 days to obtain required certifications and will not independently care for an adult and/or pediatric patients without current certifications.

Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high stress environment, must be able to lift a minimum of 10-20lbs, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Summary
The Perioperative RN develops an individualized care plan for the surgery patient. The Perioperative RN implements the plan of care by: protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources and extraneous objects; performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items; performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level; managing the patients specimens in the appropriate manner, communicating the patients current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care; administering medications safely and correctly; performing interventions to maintain the status of the patients genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above the baseline levels; performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period; performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection; assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person; providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure; actively involving the patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process; protecting the patients’ rights, dignity and privacy; providing culturally and age-appropriate according to the Nurse Practice Act; documents nursing care accurately, completely and legibly, collaborates effectively with other disciplines as appropriate; participates in quality review and performance improvement projects; uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members; maintains required competencies, acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information. These responsibilities are met according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing. Demonstrates knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served in the surgical setting. The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment. Basic computer skills are required. Accomplish other tasks as assigned.
Follows guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by all relevant regulatory and standard setting agencies or organizations. Practices within the system and departmental policies and procedures.

Reporting Relationships: Operationally the Perioperative RN reports directly to the Manager of Surgery and follows the chain of command as established by reporting facility.

OSHA Task Category One: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
