Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) takes a leadership role serving as a role model in the delivery of exceptional nursing care to the patients of ESH. The duties of the registered nurse include nursing assessments and plans of care, utilization of the nursing process throughout care delivery, direction, and implementation of plans of care to reach effective long range patient goals and discharge planning, and to serve as a liaison to ancillary departments to coordinate and collaborate the delivery of safe effective patient care. Duties may include but are not limited to the following.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to continually assess and anticipate changes in the patient’s condition and make decisions accordingly.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize dysrhythmias and activate the Rapid Response Team (RRT) or initiate a Code Blue.
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to triage patients and prioritize care based on need.
  • Maintains current knowledge of specialized procedures performed in the Emergency Department such as: external pacing, chest tube insertion, TPA protocol, conscious sedation and proper reporting of communicable disease, domestic assaults, and suspected/confirmed cases of abuse
  • Maintains current knowledge of specialized procedures performed on the Med/Surg such as: drip management, chest tube interventions, and drain/surgical care.
  • Works to maintain and enhance the standard of care by participating and being active in staff meetings, committees, special projects, team conferences and in services.
  • Facilitates communication within the health care team by giving and receiving a shift report that is timely and provides pertinent information on patient status.
  • Performs nursing procedures safely and effectively within his/her scope of training and according to the standards set forth in the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Adheres to all written policies and procedures, regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Documents per hospital policy all nursing care, treatments, procedures, patient/family responses to care, medications administered, and teaching performed.
  • Assigns direct care tasks to other team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Develops and initiates plan of care including the ability to prioritize care needs and involve patient and family in care. Revises and updates the plan of care based on ongoing needs.
  • Performs physical and psychosocial assessments upon admission, every shift, and any time thereafter based on patient status with emphasis on safety issues, self-care, education, discharge planning needs, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Current RN license in the State of Missouri.
  • Maintain CPR and BLS.
  • Maintain minimum of 12 CEUs per year.
  • Complete annual CareLearning and compliance courses.

Weekend Work Program (WWP)

The weekend work program is an alternative scheduling pattern for employees to provide flexibility and continuity of care for weekend coverage in designated patient care units.

Compensation:

  • A participant in the WWP will be compensated at their base rate plus $150 per weekend shift worked.
  • Hours worked during the week will be paid at the employee's base rate plus any applicable shift differential.
  • Hours worked during the weekend will be eligible for the appropriate evening, night, and weekend differentials.
  • When an employee uses PTO time for a scheduled weekend shift off, he/she may request to be paid up to 18 hours of PTO for each 12 hour shift requested off if the PTO balance is available.
  • When an employee calls in ill during a scheduled weekend shift, he/she will be paid 12 hours of available PTO.
  • When a Holiday falls on the weekend: the WWP employee will work the holiday, and the pay rate is "premium holiday rate", which is ½ of base rate plus the regular WWP rate of $150.00.
  • When a WWP employee volunteers to work on a holiday that is not in the weekend window, that employee is paid only the regular holiday pay rate of time and ½, just as any non-WWP employee working the holiday.

Schedule:

  • An employee accepted into the program is scheduled to work a total of 24 hours (2 shifts) between 1900 on Friday night and 0700 on Monday morning. One shift must include Saturday.
  • An employee working in the WWP can work additional shifts during the workweek with the approval of the Department Director.
  • An employee accepted into the WWP is required to make a one-year commitment to the program. If he/she is not maintaining this commitment or is in disciplinary status, he/she may be removed from the program.
  • An employee accepted into the WWP must work a minimum of 49 weekends per year.
    • The year is the calendar year, and anyone entering the WWP during the calendar year will have 4 weekend shifts off prorated by the Department Manager. A Manager may grant an additional 2 weekends shifts off per year in exchange for working three shifts during the week of the same pay period.
    • Employee entering the WWP from Jan-May of calendar year are eligible to take 4 weekend shifts over the course of the year with the 2 additional shift option being available per above.
    • Employee entering the WWP from Jun-Dec of calendar year are eligible for 2 weekend shifts over the course of the year with the 2 additional shift option being available per above.
    • Agreements will be reviewed annually, at the beginning of each calendar year.
    • If a WWP employee gets another employee to work a shift for them it will count against the shifts allowed off per year.
