Research Technician II
Job description
Position Summary
The Research Technician II will support agriculture research related to plant, animals, and aquaculture. This position requires a highly motivated individual to work in a multitude of environments including, but not limited to the University farms, greenhouses, aquaculture facility, laboratory, field, and office. This position will involve interacting and working with researchers, students, farm staff and the community.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Communicate with and assist the Farm Superintendent, Farm Managers, Assistant Farm Managers, Researchers, University Extension personnel, Technicians, casual employees, and student workers regarding research projects and the day-to-day farm operations.
- Assist with University farm field plot management.
- Assist with livestock and aquaculture research and demonstration projects.
- Work in the greenhouse to perform day-to-day operations of research projects.
- Assist with the maintenance of the field plots. greenhouses, and aquaculture facility.
- Assist with tabulation and recording of data related to the active farm research projects in an office or lab setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs as necessary.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and keep organized records.
- Interpersonal skills appropriate to operate within a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Ability to operate farm equipment is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with livestock and plant production is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work weekends and extended hours if necessary.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture, Animal Science, Plant Science, Aquaculture, Environmental Sciences or a closely related field is required.
