The Fred Hutch Innovation Laboratory (FHIL) at Fred Hutch seeks an enthusiastic and highly motivated technician I-II to join a team of scientists working in a multi-disciplinary environment on the forefront of fundamental and immunotherapy research. The FHIL is a collaborative initiative of the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC) with a mission to advance the introduction and development of new immuno-oncology research technologies. FHIL spurs in-house development and early adoption of novel techniques, including advanced single cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, T- and B-cell receptor sequencing, and other DNA/RNA-based technologies.
FHIL is located in the historic Steam Plant building under the scientific direction of Dr. Evan Newell. The successful candidate will work with a team of technicians and data scientists and report to the laboratory manager.
The successful candidate will test and compare new technologies, assist in protocol development, and use these technologies to support ongoing research in immune oncology. This person will be responsible for executing experiments with new protocols and generating NGS data to compare technologies in collaboration with computational biology collaborators. The technician will perform bench-level experiments, operate analytical instruments, and compile and summarize experimental data. The technician will also maintain detailed laboratory records, analyze data, and report on experimental results.
This position requires a high level of organization, a keen eye for detail, and accurate and thorough record keeping. We seek a candidate who has experience executing lab protocols and can adapt and troubleshoot new ones. - Compare and refine protocols for single-cell RNA sequencing and other DNA/RNA based technologies
- Generate data to compare new technologies; many of these technologies will focus on single cell and spatial techniques but are not limited to this area.
- Maintain laboratory records of all testing and protocol development and report on the performed work as necessary.
- Perform bench experiments, generate sequencing libraries, and compile other components of the downstream analysis of large experiments for immunotherapy researchers
- Help maintain laboratory stocks, cell lines, reagents, and other supplies.
- Update a research database and maintain detailed lab notebook and electronic records
- Conduct literature reviews to assist in experimental design, including the identification of alternate methods
- Assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts by contributing ideas, proofreading, and copy editing
Research Technician I: BA/BS degree and a minimum of 1 year in a research laboratory
Research Technician II: BA/BS degree and a minimum of 2 years in a research laboratory
- Great attention to detail, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments.
- To be successful in this position, the technician must have: scientific curiosity; high level of self-motivation; good organizational skills; ability to think independently but also take instruction/correction and follow directions, as well as be a team player.
- Show initiative and be willing to take up new laboratory skills and communicate well with other members of the lab. Strong skills in data collection and laboratory record keeping are mandatory. Computer skills and experience with statistical analysis and data presentation are desirable.
- Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is preferred.
Required:
- A background in molecular and cellular biology: PCR, sterile techniques, pipetting.
- The candidate must be detail oriented and a fast and willing learner.
Preferred:
- The ideal candidate is interested in 2 years in the Innovation Lab.
- Experience in tissue culture, QPCR, NGS, FACs is highly desirable.
- Familiar with single-cell assays
