Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU
Part-time, Rotating shift, Flexible start time (7a-7p, 8a-8p, 9a-9p, 10a-10p)

Job Summary
A clinically competent professional who utilizes the nursing process to direct and deliver care to the patient population on an assigned unit.
- Completes all pre-post procedural documentation and Surgical Checklist.
- Communicates patient’s clinical information to physician and Anesthesia care provider as needed. Verifies that a copy of patient’s medication list is present for review by Anesthesia provider.
- Verifies that clipping of the Surgical site has been performed prior to taking the patient to the OR
- Verifies that site marking has been completed prior to taking the patient to the OR.
- Assesses patient upon arrival to each department.
- Conducts pre op interview of patient validating critical data to include but not limited to surgical procedure and medication allergies.
- Develops a prioritized plan of care (POC) based on medical diagnosis and identified patient/family needs to include but not limited to:
- Collection and documentation of VS, NPO status, surgical/medical history, allergies, other relevant data.
- Updates POC in accordance to ASPAN, CSPAN guidelines.
- Implements the plan of care by performing evidenced-based interventions and treatments specific to diagnosis and procedure to be performed. Demonstrates ability to function effectively in clinical emergencies. Demonstrates skills and competencies in :
- Ventilator management
- Advanced hemodynamic monitoring (Arterial line, Flow Track, PA catheter, CVP monitoring)
- PCA
- PNB
- Intracranial pressure monitoring/lumbar drain management
Uses approved two patient identifiers when administering any test, treatment, giving/taking blood, medications, IV therapy per hospital policy. Approved identifiers are patient name and date of birth.- Demonstrates ability to function effectively in clinical emergencies
Skills & Abilities
- Convey effective verbal and written communications;

- Organize and manage time effectively setting appropriate priorities;
- Make independent decisions consistent with current policies, procedures and nursing standards;
- Successfully complete standardized dosage exam;
- Adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts;
- Effectively function as a member of a collaborative team;
- Respond to emergency situations appropriately,
- Adhere to standards of behavior and support Culture of Excellence.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelors preferred.
- Currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland.
- BLS and ACLS required, PALS required for PACU and Pre-Op nurses within six months of hire.
- Additional certification and/or training as determined by department per job task list.
