Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Services will work Per Diem, Nights and follows ENA standards for all phases of care.
  • Triaging patients in ED according to severity of illness or injury (must have 1 year FT ED experience prior to triaging patients). Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol, as guided by ENA standards.
  • The Registered Nurse initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
  • Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments.
  • Prepares, administers and documents prescribed medications.
  • Reports adverse reactions to medications to the physician.
  • The Registered Nurse maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
  • Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care.
  • Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.
  • The Registered Nurse teaches patient and care providers how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Records vital signs and all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner as measured by random chart reviews.
  • The Registered Nurse performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • The Registered Nurse updates self in regard to policies, procedures and standards of practice.
  • Acts effectively as charge nurse, house resource nurse or preceptor when assigned.
  • Practices within the legal boundaries and ethical framework.
  • Organizational Responsibilities:Adheres to standards of practice as set forth in policy and guidelines to assure patient safety. Uses supplies and institutional resources in a financially responsible manner.
  • The Registered Nurse maintains an orderly, clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintains appropriate, professional personal appearance, including but not limited to required attire such as uniforms and safety apparel.
  • Assists in the training process of students and/or orientation of new personnel.
  • Participates in staffing patterns that reflect variable demands in service.
  • The Registered Nurse demonstrates a positive attitude.
  • Uses flexibility and innovation while problem solving.
  • Demonstrates collaborative practice, support and respect for each team member.
  • Participates in departmental / organizational committees.
  • Demonstrates initiative in expanding and sharing knowledge.
  • Participates in continued education through attendance and presentations at in-service sessions.
  • Demonstrates professional, respectful communication with patients and coworkers while adhering always to hospital policies for the protection of the privacy of patient health information and confidentiality.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • The Registered Nurse professionally communicates necessary information to supervisor or team leader in support of unit, departmental and facility standards and policies.
Qualifications:
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Bassett Healthcare Network will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.

Education:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required, bachelors preferred.
Experience:
  • One year RN experience in a hospital healthcare setting, required.
  • RN Emergency Department experience, preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
  • Current NYS licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • ACLS, required.
  • PALS, preferred. PALS certification, required within 12 months of hire, or as soon as possible.
  • TNCC or ENPC encouraged within the two years after hire. TNCC, required for charge RN.
Skills:
  • Excellent motor, hand, eye, coordination and manual dexterity required.
  • Ability to handle and operate equipment, read, retains and comprehends written and oral medical and technical information.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly develops trust, sustain working relationships, and represent LFH positively in internal and external encounters.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Previous experience with medical records technology, preferred.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, required.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills, required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires extensive standing, occasional sitting and routine walking.
  • Ability to lift, possibly heavy lifting in support of patient positioning, instrument and equipment handling.
