Job Summary*
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the Recreation Programs Coordinator I position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating recreation programs and events for the assigned recreation facility at our public parks. Employees in this class are responsible for training and coordinating subordinate personnel who lead or assist with recreation activities and maintenance of facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Plans and executes recreation, cultural and athletic activities and events to address the needs of the community; surveys the surrounding community to develop programs and/or activities; coordinates recreation facility programs and citywide departmental and multiple facility activities.

Organizes, schedules, and reviews the work of subordinate staff, contract personnel and volunteers; makes recommendations regarding hiring and discipline of subordinates; provides input for employee performance evaluations; evaluates and coordinates contracted entertainers, vendors and officials.

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various operational records and reports such as monthly activity reports, time sheets, surveys, staff schedules, purchase requisitions, program proposals, program evaluations, program attendance, contracts, registration forms, insurance agreements, deposits, facility and vehicle inspections.

Prepares periodic schedules of events and activities; plans and directs sports tournaments, special events, performances, aquatic programs, field trips and related programs; administers facility use, field and other activity permits; writes and disseminates news releases, media coverage items and prepares grant applications.

• Serves as liaison and makes presentations to community groups, prospective sponsors, Parks and Recreation organizations, grant organizations, and schools.

Qualifications

What's required:* (Minimum Requirements)*

• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) years of full-time progressively responsible experience in the field of parks and recreation.

• Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of municipal parks, recreation programming and Departmental operational procedures.

What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)

• Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation or public administration. If no degree, then the experience can substitute for education. A total of 5 years of professional experience managing athletics and events programs.
• Knowledge in the area of athletic events, youth and adult activities and aquatics programs, rules and operations.
