What part will you play?
- GAF Energy is seeking a Quality Engineering Technician who will be a strategic member of Manufacturing & Supply Chain Quality at our Manufacturing facility in Georgetown, TX.
- You will report to the Manufacturing & Supply Chain Sr. Quality Manager and support a cross-functional team that designs and builds solar roofing products.
- You will join a highly focused team that thrives in a start-up, fast-paced and multi-shift environment.
- The Quality Engineering Technician supports the Engineering and Manufacturing teams to produce high quality, high-volume, photovoltaic solar technology solutions.
- The Quality Engineering Technician will be responsible for ensuring the organization's standards are constantly maintained, overseeing and managing the QC/QA function and supporting the Senior Quality Engineer in continual improvement activities.
- The role will focus on developing and improving a quality system to ensure that all external and internal product quality requirements are consistently met or exceeded.
Responsibilities:
- Create and promote a quality culture throughout the organization.
- Analyze, develop and implement quality inspection plans for receiving and manufacturing processes to ensure product quality and adherence to production shipping schedule.
- Interpret technical specifications, drawings, engineering instructions, and fabrications to communicate requirements to the factory and document as required.
- Review and analyze Change Alert (CA), Change Order (CO) and make necessary changes to inspection processes to verify the changes have been implemented.
- Support and follow ISO standards to maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Writing/updating procedures, policies, SOPs, Forms, and work flows to support quality requirements.
- Conduct ISO internal audits as planed and scheduled by Quality Manager, including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
- Utilize standard SPC and Lean Manufacturing techniques and process mapping to improve quality, product flow, and resource utilization.
- Collect and analyze quality data to identify areas requiring improvement. Monitor, interpret, report, and act upon manufacturing defect data and quality trends for quality and process improvement.
- Communicate with cross-functional teams to facilitate root cause analysis. Use quality tools for Root Causes Analysis to resolve problems.
- Monitor CA/PA process to ensure implementation in a timely manner and verify effectiveness.
- Support Quality Engineer with existing projects/products and New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Support the product development quality requirements and control plans.
- Set the quality criteria, quality objectives, quality goals and target for each key manufacturing process.
- Work with the team to identify and achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Support in risk assessment and mitigation activities.
- Identify and recommend disposition of defective items in accordance with Company procedures.
- Analyze and disposition non-conforming parts as member of the Material Review Board (MRB) and drive for resolution of discrepancies.
- Participate in RMA process, analyze RMA data and trends, and work with manufacturing for improvements and reductions in defects.
- Support all corporate and site Quality objectives, ESD requirements, and MSD handling requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to qualify new materials and verify compliance to industry standards and GAF Energy contractual agreements. The Certificate of Conformance is used to verify conformity to established manufacturing systems such as ISO 9001:2015.
- Partner with GAF Energy suppliers to verify the purchased products meet regulatory and quality standards. The Certificate of Compliance is used to verify compliance to industry regulations and to ensure product safety.
- Utilize the supplier issued Certificate of Analysis (CoA) to demonstrate released products meets desired quality standards and GAF Energy contractual agreements.
What do we require from you?
- Associate degree in Engineering, Quality, Physical Science, or related discipline or 5+ years of industrial manufacturing experience, including 3+ years of Quality management experience
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing expansions and start-ups (preferred)
- Proven track record as Quality Engineering Technician in high-volume solar panel manufacturing company is desired
- Experience in driving supplier quality improvement
- Experience using quality and manufacturing systems to drive product and process improvements and experience in driving supplier quality improvement.
- Experience implementing & managing robust QMS in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements
- Experience in statistical tools and disciplined problem solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, Cause and Effect, statistical analysis tools
- Self-motivated, proactive and efficient team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations
- Impeccable attention to detail, a process-oriented mindset, and excellent time management
