The Ohio Department of Taxation is responsible for the administration of individual and business taxes across the state. The Ohio Department of Taxation's Communications Division is seeking one (1) candidate to fill their Public Information Officer 1 position.

60% Works under general supervision of the Chief of Communications and serves as the communications department’s consultant and liaison to various divisions/departments/projects as assigned. Exhibits engagement and understanding of each assigned division and reflects this knowledge in planning and writing; attends division meetings and develops key contacts within each assigned division; develops written strategic and comprehensive communication plans for each assigned division/project (researches and writes content for distribution through several channels including internal, and external audiences, correspondence, pamphlets/brochures, info. graphics, social media, blogs, websites, news releases, speech materials, PowerPoint presentations and other editorial content to ensure it aligns with the agency’s established brand and grammar guidelines; Provides editorial and communication support for events (internal and external) drafting content for training manuals, assisting with setting up Teams calls, creating talking points, reviewing content. Assists with website content creation, ensuring that it is user-friendly and is up-to-date; assists with producing (writing scripts and editing) high-quality videos for use in agency communications and promotional materials.

30% Advises and consults with various staff regarding public relations aspects (e.g. regarding marketing services and target audiences; serves as a resource for information on positive public presentation of agency programs and activities (e.g. provides information researched by staff relative to division on programs & services offered); answers questions generated by articles published by division; responds to written or other requests for speeches, presentations; provides accurate, professionally-written copy to use for speeches and presentations; promotes training and information available through agency services and programs by updating newsletters and training materials and preparing media advisories; provides pertinent information management staff to disseminate at external speaking engagements and meetings with stakeholder groups; attends meetings to document information and to provide feedback to agency executive staff; provides assistance to provides analytics around the content which has been created; assists with other stakeholder outreach (e.g. newsletters, websites).

10% Performs related duties (e.g. attends meetings, seminars and training events): sets up conferences & public events; evaluates development, preparation and dissemination of public information regarding agency products and services.

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 6 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license. -Or 30 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license. -Or 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Specialist, 64420; valid driver's license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Knowledge of public relations; journalism (e.g., newswriting, reporting & editing); communication (e.g., multi-media techniques); budgeting; supervisory principles/techniques*; management*. Skill in typing or word processing. Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific action; prepare & deliver speeches to specialized audiences & general public; use proper research methods in gathering data; write &/or edit articles for publication; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.
