1. Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position
This position has overall responsibility to fabricates prototype parts ensuring that product conforms to requirements identified on the work order, customer blueprint and/or Dexter’s Engineering specifications based on direction of engineering team.
2. Major Responsibilities
- Work with design engineers to build prototype parts that are representative of design ideas/concepts on prints.
- Follow engineering documentation & guidelines to assemble customer samples and other test samples.
- Provide feedback to design engineers related to Bills of Materials, installation, validation, accessibility, and maintainability issues.
- Works with production team to gain experience on all the fabricating processes we use in the prototype projects.
- Produces prototype fabrications in a timely and quality manner.
- Maintains accurate records of all time and expenses incurred in the fabrication of each prototype order.
- Coordinate the build of prototype material; track progress of prototype builds to meet customer schedules.
- Inventory keeping of prototype and production release components.
- Performs required inspections of conformance and immediately notifies engineering team of any concerns or discrepancies.
- Processes orders with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a safe working environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to safe work practices.
- Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
- ** Qualifications**
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- 2-3 years’ of related experience and/or training.
- CAD software (Solidworks) is a plus
- Basic math skills related to shop area are required.
- Basic with Microsoft Office

- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment interfacing with engineering team and machine shop
- Knowledge and use of a wide variety of precision measuring equipment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Works in a clean, air-conditioned and well lit production environment- protective foot and eyewear required.- 70% Standing on cement floors with rubber mats, 10% Sitting, 10% Stooping and Bending and 10% Walking
- Lift and transport an average weight 10 lbs., maximum 40 lbs.
- Manual dexterity of both hands.
- Near Visual Acuity (either corrected or uncorrected).
Ability to understand verbal direction and instruction. Ability to give feedback to engineers and brainstorm with others on the prototype team. Must be able to read, understand and comply with all quality and safety regulations.

The Prototype Technician is responsible for manufacturing the first piece article according to customer specifications. That work is critical to securing customer approval to move forward in the manufacturing process.
Failure to meet quality standards can result in not securing the order from the customer.
