Job Duties

  • Researches missing dispositions on criminal history records in response to subpoenas; out-of-state record requests; and civil and firearm restoration of rights on the Virginia criminal history.
  • Conducts record updates on behalf of the Sex Offender Registry, Expungement, and Civil & Applicant Records Exchange (CARE) sections in compliance with governing policies, regulations, and the Code of Virginia.
  • Archives documentation received.
  • Enters disposition information obtained through research into the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system; and modifies or corrects researched dispositions on the Virginia criminal history.
  • Accurately performs data entry functions to establish and update adult arrest disposition information.
  • Ensures accurate arrest and disposition state statute codes.
  • Processes incoming SP-102 Investigative Reports from division and area offices.
  • Retrieves and photocopies files for law enforcement and judicial agencies and in response to subpoenas and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by uploading documents into NextRequest.
  • Maintains and organizes SP-102 files in accordance with policies, procedures, and retention guidelines.
  • Validates criminal history information upon request by the general public or Virginia Department of Elections.
  • Generates appropriate correspondence to the Virginia Department of Elections.
  • Assists with the microfilm/microfiche conversion project by accurately verifying indexing fields to ensure search ability and retrieval of documents.
  • Schedules and coordinates special events for the Special Processing and Analytical Support Section (SPASS).
  • Submits supply orders for the SPASS section.
  • Opens, date stamps, and distributes incoming mail for the SPASS section.
  • Serves as a backup to the Program Support Technician Senior position number 01673 as needed.
  • Provides assistance to other CJIS subsections as workload dictates.
  • Works at least 75% of mandatory overtime.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to assist the Department or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Department and state policies and procedures as related to the subject area; and of Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, and basic computer operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective keyboarding to include data entry functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research and analytical methodology in the interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information; to work independently and as a member of a team; to follow instructions and pay close attention to detail; and to communicate effectively in English with internal and external contacts and agencies.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience indicative of good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified or ability to become certified within specific time frame (requires U.S. citizenship or lawful resident of the U.S. for the past 10 consecutive years).
